Andhra Pradesh has been infamous for extrajudicial executions in the context of countering the Naxalites. Torture has been an integral part. The National Human Rights Commission registered cases against 80 deaths in police custody during 2009-2010 to 2018-19, six cases of custodial rapes reported between 2014 and 2016 and 765 deaths in judicial custody.
